Indian Speedway motorcycle. 1927 Owned and ridden by Spencer Stratton. Frame - Indian DT (USA), this is believed to be an ex works machine Engine - Indian 350cc (21 cub inch), 24 bhp and 5800 rpm. Engine No. F.E.R.A.1 Carburettor - Linkert, racing type Fuel - Methanol (mixture) Purchased by Ian Paterson in 1994 unrestored from Alan Forbes in Edinburgh. Ian was told that the bike was first ridden in Australia by Spencer Stratton who brought it to the UK. It remained in the UK until it was purchased by an American collector in the 60s. The American dirt track racing motorcycles were running on methanol fuel and consequently were using very high compression ratios. On large tracks in the USA and Australia they provided the Harley 'Peashooter' with some very tough opposition.
